FOSTER-ADOPTION APPLICATION

Thank you for your interest in a Blue Waters Rescue dog!!! Please fill out this application in full and answer all questions completely and honestly (If a question does not apply, type in N/A). An incomplete application will delay your application. Our screening process involves a home visit by one of our representatives. If you will not permit a  home visit, please do not submit this application.

In order to foster or adopt from Blue Waters Dog Rescue, you must:

  • Be 21 years of age or older.

  • If you rent, you must have consent from your landlord to have a dog.

  • Have all dogs and cats in the home spayed or neutered, if they are 6 months or older unless there are medical reasons for not doing so.

  • Have all dogs in the home up to date on vaccinations.

  • Agree to have a home visit done by one of our volunteers. The volunteer will need to see the areas of the home where the dog will be allowed and also visit with family members and current pets.  • Notify us prior to bringing in another foster dog outside of our organization while fostering our dog.  • Contact us immediately if you encounter situations in which you may need assistance. (Housebreaking,  chewing, behavioral, issues with people, etc.)

  • Contact us immediately if you can no longer provide a home for foster or adopted dogs.

Upon receipt of your application, the Blue Waters Dog Rescue application coordinator will review your application and speak with your references. After an application is approved, a home visit will be scheduled. Please allow us several days to review this application and contact your references. We are a 100% volunteer organization.

What is a 2 Week in-home trial period?

Our adoption process is centered around finding quality matches for the dogs in our program. Aside from your adoption application and interview with a VPBR representative, we use a two-week home trial to determine whether your lifestyle and the dog are a quality fit. Why two weeks? Two weeks is roughly the time it takes for a dog to acclimate to a new environment. Before any adoption is finalized, a two-week home trial must be conducted.

How do you care for the dogs?

  • Safe Space and time to decompress ( see information on decompression)

  • Routine veterinary care

  • Given Heartguard ( see information on heartworms & why giving Heartgard is a must

  • Basic obedience training & behavior modification when necessary

  • Observed for a minimum of 14 days in a home-like setting with lots of love.

  • Are Spayed/Neutered & microchipped

What Kind of Care Do Dogs Receive Before Being Adopted?

Each dog in our program has passed behavioral assessments and temperament evaluations. We spend a great deal of time with our dogs before ever making them available for adoption.  Also, with owner surrenders, we get as much history as possible down to food allergies and past behavior issues.

Before you go…

Not ready to adopt?

Thank you from the bottom of our hearts!
